Drama Shot

Update 1: FAQs were added at the bottom of this page. PDF version of all these FAQs can be downloaded from this post.

Drama Shot lets you take a series of pictures of any moving subject and puts them together – so you can see the detailed action that’s seamlessly merged into one very dynamic photo. This is what Samsung told us.

Actually, this is almost a standard feature in most DSLRs. But in smartphones, this is quite new and interesting.

Once in Drama shot mode, the camera can take up to 100 photos in 4 seconds of the moving object, then the software automatically pick some locations to forge the final photo. The major criterion for the automatic selection is that object should not overlapping in different locations. You can manually choose locations to be used, of course.

Once the photo is saved, you can edit it in gallery (the stock one) by re-selecting the locations of the object. This is pretty useful.  As I know, you have to edit such photos in Galaxy S4 if you want to change the locations of the moving objects. If you edit it in your PC, it is just a normal photo.

The first photo is always used as background and the starting location of the moving object. You need keep the camera still. The object should move in one direction.

In the user manual, Samsung gives the following tips  to get the best shot:

  • – –Hold the camera steady and remain still while taking photos.
  • – –Take photos of a subject that is moving in one direction.
  • – –Take photos with backgrounds that are free of moving objects.
  • – –Avoid taking photos of a subject and background with similar colors.
  • – –Avoid taking photos of a subject that is too close or too far away to fit within the viewfinder or that is too long such as a bus or a train.

To access Drama shot, you need open Camera app, Tap MODE, and then scroll up or down the screen at the right side of the screen. Select Drama mode.

If you haven’t tried this feature, try it now!
