It is estimated that  about more than half of Galaxy S4 users now enjoy Android 4.3. As summarized in last post of  Top 10 new or improved features in Jelly Bean 4.3 update for your Samsung Galaxy S4, most of users feel happy with the upgrade.

Of course, some Galaxy S4 owners encounter some problems after the 4.3 upgrade. Some of these problems can be very disturbing, and therefore these  owners may get frustrated. In this post, I will share with you the  5 most common problems you may encounter after the Jelly Bean 4.3 update and the solutions. S Health problems, missing mobile data toggle, apps on lock screen, annoying security warning,  and lack of Outlook sync will be covered. If you have any other problems, you may post them in comment box below.

S Health Problems after Jelly Bean 4.3 update

The most widely reported problems is related to S Health. It seems this Android 4.3 update for S4 messed up the S Health app.

The problems include:  1). missing S Health after Jelly Bean 4.3 update; 2). S Health cannot start; 3). missing blood pressure and blood glucose related functions.  I already shared the solutions for these three problems in our Newsletter (you may subscribe to it in the subscription box below, or in the sidebar).

If you cannot find S Health in your S4 after the 4.3 upgrade, You can try to open Samsung Apps. Please note, you  need a Samsung account for Samsung Apps. Once in Samsung Apps, tap Menu button and select “purchased”. You should be able to find S Health app there. You can install it from there.

The second issue with S health App after the update is that S Health cannot start. It can be simply no response, or simply crash. The possible workaround for this is factory reset. You can do this through Settings–Accounts–Backup and reset–Factory data reset–Reset device–Erase everything. Please note, you should backup all your data before performing factory reset.

After the Jelly Bean 4.3 update for your Galaxy S4,  you will notice that the blood pressure and blood glucose related functions were removed (including all your saved data). Probably, we will have to wait for the next update to bring back this feature. No workarounds are available for this yet.

Lack of Outlook sync (in Kies 3)

You may already know you must use Kies 3 after you upgrade your Galaxy S4 to Android 4.3.  Essentially, for any Samsung phones with Jelly Bean 4.3, Kies 2 will not work. You need Kies 3.

But once you install Kies 3, you will immediately noticed that there are no outlook sync at all. It means you cannot sync your items in PC’s Outlook (e.g., Outlook 2013) with updated Galaxy S4. Yes, before updating, you can perform such sync with Kies 2.

There are no solutions or workaround from Samsung. We have to wait for the update of Kies 3.  The update is scheduled in this month or early next month.

Don’t be panic. If you need Outlook sync desperately, there is an old workaround that sync Outlook with Android without using any apps. You may check this guide in Android Forum.

The non-free workaround is gSyncit, which costs you $19.99.  You should try it first because the version of your Outlook (Office) may give different results.

Missing Mobile data toggle in notification panel

A few owners reported the missing mobile data toggle after the Android 4.3 update. It seems this problem is region and carrier specific. Very likely, it was messed up by the carrier.

If you find you cannot find the mobile data toggle after the Jelly Bean 4.3 update,  you can check  whether you can find this in Settings–My device–Display–Notification panel.  If not, you can try to do a factory reset. Of course, you need backup all your data before resetting.

If factory reset does not help, you probably have to wait for a new update to fix the issue. In the mean time, you can try this  free Notification Toggle app as a workaround.

Annoying  Security Message (warning)

After updating to Android 4.3,  some Galaxy S4 owners may repeatedly  encounter this warning message:

“An application attempted to access system on your device without authorisation. This attempt has been blocked. Changing your security level to normal may solve this problem. Deleting applications obtained from unauthorised sources may improve security.”

This is annoying because you cannot turn it off totally.  Even worse, it does not mention which app triggers this message.  The problem has been acknowledged by Samsung. So, we have to wait for a fix.

For the time being, the most effective way to get rid of this annoying message is a factory reset.  So backup your data, perform a factory reset.

If you do not want to reset your S4, you may try to disable (or force stop if you cannot disable) and  clear all data (and cache) related to KNOX (Settings–more–application manager–all).  The problem may come again after rebooting your Galaxy S4.

Some apps does not work on locked screen

You receive an notification in the locked screen. But if you tap and drag the notification, nothing happens.  This is another disturbing problem some users may face after upgrading Galaxy S4 to Jelly Bean 4.3.

Facebook is the most reported app for this issue. Some Samsung support engineers tell S4 owners the issue is due to Facebook app itself, not S4.

This is not true. In other Jelly Bean 4.3 phones, Facebook has no issues. It seems Samsung messed up something somewhere.  Some users get it work properly after a factory reset, but most users have no luck after resetting.
